They are are crisp and acidic. Fresh apples are best but you can also use canned, or dried apples for this apple pie recipe. So, what so you need for an apple pie recipe?

Simple Apple Pie Recipe Ingredients
* 3 pounds apples (that is like 8 apples)
* 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
* 3/4 cup plus 1 tablespoon sugar
* 1 teaspoon cinnamon
* 1/4 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
* 1/4 teaspoon salt
* 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
* 2 tablespoons butter
* milk for brushing the crust

And for dough you will need:
* 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
* 3/4 stick (6 tablespoons) butter
* 2 tablespoons vegetable shortening
* 1/4 teaspoon salt
* 2 tablespoons water

First we will make dough for this apple pie recipe. Take a big bowl and blend the flour, the butter, the vegetable shortening, and the salt. Mix for a while, then add two teaspoons of really cold water (or more if needed) and mix and knead until you get the dough nice and even. Then roll it into a ball and let it rest for 1 hour in a cold place.

One hour later… :)

Start you oven :) and set it to 450°F. Now take your dough, cut it in half and roll one half until its around 1/8 inch thick. Now a good thing to have is a glass pie plate (like 9 inches big). Put the rolled dough into the plate and trim the dough that hangs over the edge of the plate. But you should a little overhang (like 3/4-inch) for later. Put the plate and the rest of the dough in a cold place.

Now it’s time to get busy with the apples. Different sorts of apples react differently when you cook them. Some give you more moisture/liquid and others less, so it depends on how moist do you want your apple pie to be. If it gets to moist you can also use 4 tablespoons of flour instead of two. OK, first you should peel, core, and cut the apples into into eighths.

Now take a big bowl and put in all the cut apples, 3/4 cup of the sugar, the flour, the cinnamon, the nutmeg, the salt, and the lemon juice. Mix until all ingredients are combined well, then put the filling into the glass pie plate on your dough. Cut your butter into little pieces and sprinkle them on the top.

Now take the remaining dough and roll it so you get a round 14-inch round pancake :). Pull it over the filling, and trim it so you have around 1-inch overhang. This overhang should be bigger that the overhang from the bottom layer of dough so fold it under the bottom layer and press them both together so the pie is sealed. You can play and decorate the edges if you want.

We are almost done with this apple pie recipe. Now all you need to do is use the milk to lightly brush the crust and take a sharp knife and make holes into the crust so the apple pie has steam vents. Sprinkle the pie evenly with the remaining 1 tablespoon sugar.

That’s it, now its baking time – you should first bake the apple pie for 20 minutes on 450°F then reduce the heat and bake your apple pie for another 20 to 25 minutes on 350°F. when the apple pie is baked the crust should be golden brown and apples soft and tender.

Be careful, apple pie is hot! Also, if you find that you get too much apple soup in your apple pie the try this – first use more flour (as said earlier) and second, leave your apple pie when it’s baked to rest for a couple of hours. It this time the liquid should be absorbed into the rest of the pie. That’s really it :).
